DURHAM ā Following 72 holes of LPGA Stage I Qualifying School, the Duke women's golf duo of
Anne Chen and
Erica Shepherd combined to shoot 23-under-par and were two of 99 golfers moving on to Stage II.
Shepherd posted rounds of 69, 69, 70 and 68 for a 12-under-par, 276, to finish fifth, while Chen registered scores of 68, 71, 70 and 68 for an 11-under-par, 277, to tie for sixth at the Dinah Shore and Palmer Courses located at the Mission Hills Country Club as well as the Classic Course at Indian Wells Country Club in California. A 2023 Duke graduate, Shepherd carded only four bogeys and one double-bogey over 72 holes, while rolling in 16 birdies and one eagle.Ā Chen, a senior from Sugar Land, Texas, had five bogeys, 14 birdies and one eagle over her four days of action. Ā
Next up in qualifying for the Duke tandem is Stage II, which is slated to be played Oct. 17-20 at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla.
Savannah Grewal and Suzuka Yamaguchi both shot 15-under-par, 273, to take medalist honors. Ā
Chen heads back to Durham to join the Blue Devils, who are preparing to open the 2023-24 schedule Sept. 11-13 at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Lake Elmo, Minn.
