DURHAM – Duke men's lacrosse graduate student
Dyson Williams was selected first by the Albany Firewolves in the 2023 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft Saturday afternoon in Toronto. Williams is the first Blue Devil to be selected No. 1 overall in the NLL Entry Draft.
Williams recently competed for Canada in the 2023 World Lacrosse Championship this past summer in San Diego. He joins former Blue Devil
Zack Greer as the only Duke players to go in the top three – Greer was the No. 3 pick in 2009.
In addition to
Dyson Williams getting selected first, the Blue Devil attackman was in attendance for his father Shawn Williams' induction as a member of the 2021 NLL Hall of Fame. His father is the current General Manager and Head Coach of the Las Vegas Desert Dogs of the league.
A captain in 2023, Williams earned his first All-America award last season after leading Blue Devil goal scorers with 60 goals to rank seventh on the Duke single-season charts. He is the fifth different Blue Devil to reach the 60-goal mark, joining Max Quinzani, Greer, Justin Guterding and Jordan Wolf.
Earning his first All-ACC selection in 2023, the Oshawa, Ontario native averaged 3.40 goals per game in ACC play and notched four hat tricks in the six outings. In 19 games this season, Williams scored at least three goals in 12 games this season, including an impressive six markers in the second victory over Syracuse.
In Duke's run to the NCAA Championship game, he tallied eight goals and an assist for nine points. He added one more score in the title game against Notre Dame. Williams has played in 59 career games and owns 151 goals and 21 assists for 172 points. He ranks eighth at Duke in career goals and 24th in career points.
