Quotes
Piper Hampsch on the game
"I think Friday we were really hyped up obviously. An ACC opponent and we wanted to come out strong and we've kind of been blanked by Syracuse in the past so going into that game we really wanted to be on our A game and from there we just tried to ride that high. We didn't come out as fiery or with as much energy as we should have today so we were all a bit disappointed in that, but it's good to know that even on a type of day like this we can still grind out a win. It was much more finesse on Friday when we were trying to slice and dice around that team and today was a bit more of a grunt game and trying to rely on our basics, rely on the strength and conditioning that we've done to get us through 60 minutes."
Hampsch on the defensive effort
"I was really happy with our individual defensive effort, especially inside the circle – marking up on our girls, being able to step in front of some passes across the cage. Obviously, I had a couple of touches on the ball, which is never the goal, but it means the defense around you is doing their job to give you shots that you can see so I was happy with that. I think if we would have expanded that out to outside of our circle and stepped up our individual defense – it wasn't for lack of effort, but again I think just sharpening up those basics. Everyone's effort was there. We just need to fine tune the last bit to win the balls."
Hampsch on looking ahead to Boston College and Harvard
"We're all excited to go to Boston. Obviously, we love playing at home these past two weekends and getting four wins out of it, but I think we're excited to take it on the road and again grind out a couple more wins. We're playing a tough Boston College team who is also coming off a lot of great wins and a great Harvard team as well. We're looking forward to refining our own game. I think we've done a lot to match our opponents, but at the end of the day we want to be Duke and we want to play Duke field hockey and I think we have two great matches to be able to do that."
Pam Bustin on the pace of the game compared to the Syracuse game
"It was a different opponent for sure and I think coming out on Sunday's sometimes you expect a level that you competed at on Friday would automatically be there. I'm not saying that's the case, but you forget what you had to do to bring that, and I think it took a half to get into it, to realize we had to pick up our pace. But I have to give tons of credit to Old Dominion. I thought defensively they played a very tough annoying game for our attack. I'm really proud of our team for sticking with it, executing the moments that we had. It gives us something to look at and get better from."
Bustin on creating shots against Old Dominion
"It's hard when they defended with their entire team so getting shots off is quite difficult. So, it was more [about being] in a position to get a rebound and try to earn some corners because numbers in our favor attack wise. So that was kind of our goal there. I thought Brynn on the corner did a great job preparing for that rebound and putting it back in the goal cage.
Bustin on the win streak
"Every game we come out we're playing to win and it's nothing guaranteed so we really appreciate when we can earn the win the way we did today, the way we did Friday. Tuesday is a new day. It's a new week so now it's on to preparing for Boston College."
Bustin on preparing for the next game
"I think it's more finding out what there is in our game that we want to accentuate to take advantage of maybe situations in Boston College's style of play, but you just never know because they're probably making changes too. We'll just focus on what we need to do and get better at it."
