CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The annual ACC Men's Basketball Tipoff was held on Wednesday at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown, previewing the Blue Devils' upcoming 2024-25 campaign.
Third-year head coach
Jon Scheyer was joined by junior guard
Tyrese Proctor and sophomore guard
Caleb Foster,
speaking to the media on their expectations and goals for the upcoming season.
"We have emphasized controlling what you can control," said Scheyer. "That's the work you put in. That's the preparation. We want to be a team that's tough and together. That's the most important thing. You have to have the right people. I feel we do. These guys have been consistent with the work, and now we have to take steps forward with understanding strengths and weakness of each other and how to put in a little bit more structure and how to develop that."
In addition to their media availability, Proctor and Foster took part in photo shoots, radio appearances and network video segments. The preseason All-ACC teams and predicted order of finish, as picked by the media, will be announced at a later date.
Proctor and Foster are Duke's two main returning players from the Blue Devils' Elite Eight appearance in the 2023-24 season. Proctor, a native of Sydney, Australia, enters his third season in Durham, while Foster returns for his second season with the Blue Devils.
"Obviously, playing point guard at Duke, it's what I've dreamed of as a young kid, and just being able to be in that position and help [the rest of the team] get up to speed as quickly as possible on and off the floor, that's my job as a leader on this team," said Proctor. "I feel that me and Caleb have done a great job so far in the summer just making sure everyone is on track and competing every day."
Duke's next preseason event is the first of two exhibitions played by the Blue Devils. Duke welcomes Lincoln (Pa.) to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19, tipping off at 1 p.m., broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
