DURHAM – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) released its 2024 Academic All-District Softball Teams with
Jada Baker,
Claire Davidson,
Aminah Vega,
Lillie Walker and
Jala Wright earning recognition.
The CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, which will be released on June 18.
Baker, a product of Longwood, Fla., earned a 3.64 GPA and is working toward her degree in psychology. The redshirt-sophomore was one of six players to have started all 61 games this season, seeing action at shortstop. Baker was selected as a team captain for the 2024 campaign and posted a career-best .241 batting average, while tallying 38 hits, five doubles, four home runs and 23 RB on the year.
Davidson, who hails from Lakewood Ranch, Fla., turned in a 3.771 GPA and graduated in May with a degree in sociology. The senior concluded her final season in Durham in strong fashion, leading the team in batting average (.436), home runs (18), doubles (20), runs scored (62) and RBI (67). Her 20 doubles and 67 RBI has set Duke single-season records and ranks ninth and seventh in the NCAA, respectively.
A native of DeBary, Fla., Vega earned the distinction with a 3.737 GPA and is majoring in psychology. Vega was strong for the Blue Devils at the plate, batting .369 with 20 multi-hit games this season. The sophomore saw action in 59-of-61 games this season and finished second on the team in home runs (12), doubles (18) and RBI (52). She joined Davidson as the first players to be named first-team NFCA All-Americans in Duke's record books.
Walker, who graduated in May with a degree in psychology, earned the honor with a 3.725 GPA. The senior reliever was a key part of the pitching staff, recording 40 strikeouts in 63.2 innings. The Inola, Okla., native posted a 1.98 ERA after 28 appearances in the circle and finished with a 12-1 ledger on the year. She earned the recognition for a second consecutive season.
A Charlotte, N.C., native, Wright earned a 3.744 GPA and graduated in May with her degree in sociology. The senior led the Blue Devils' pitching staff with 154.1 innings pitched in 34 appearances and collected 189 strikeouts on the year. Wright was unanimously voted ACC Pitcher of the Year and was selected as the ACC Tournament MVP, joining
Peyton St. George as the only Blue Devils to receive the honor. She also earned NFCA All-America Second Team recognition.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, achieve sophomore standing at their current school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and be nominated by her sports information director.
