BOONE, N.C. — Duke wrestling redshirt sophomore
Connor Barket continued his impressive run on Monday at Appalachian State with a victory at heavyweight inside Varsity Gym in Boone. Overall, as a team the Blue Devils dropped a 45-5 decision to the Mountaineers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the heavyweight match, Connor Barket went up against 19th-ranked Stephan Monchery. Barket, who is from West Lafayette, Ind., was on the attack from the start as he collected a takedown in the first period to go ahead, 3-0.Barket opened the second period with an escape, a point off a penalty and another takedown to go ahead, 8-0.He added another penalty point to take a 9-0 lead into the final period.Barket increased his lead to 12-0 with his third takedown and closed the match with two penalty points and riding time to win a 15-0 tech fall.
- Barket moved to 22-5 on the season and 12-2 in dual match play.
- The Blue Devils dropped to 4-10 on the year, while Appalachian State improved to 3-3.
- Barket has won five out of his last seven contests.
- Redshirt freshman Aidan Wallace missed his second-straight match due to an illness.
- The Blue Devils were forced to forfeit at 125 pounds.

- Duke will return to the mat Friday, Jan. 24 as the Blue Devils host Virginia Tech at 7 p.m., live on the ACC Network.
