DURHAM, N.C. – Along with the 12 returning letterwinners from last season, the Duke softball program also welcomed 10 newcomers in six freshman and four transfers. During the fall, GoDuke.com will be spotlighting each of the 10 newcomers ahead of the 2026 campaign.
The next Blue Devil spotlight is graduate transfer Tyrina Jones. A native of Lake Worth, Fla., Jones joins the Blue Devils after a four-year career at Purdue. In her four years with the Boilermakers, Jones appeared in 135 career games and earned 133 starts, primarily at shortstop. She owns a .269 career batting average with 113 hits, 14 home runs and 66 RBI. In the classroom, Jones was one of just four active Purdue players to garner Academic All-Big Ten honors in three straight seasons after earning the distinction in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

GD: What is your favorite part about softball?
TJ: My favorite part of softball is the friendships you get out of this sport and the community and family aspect of being part of a team.
GD: What do you like most about Duke so far?
TJ: Playing for Duke gives me a sense of accomplishment and gratitude, knowing that I've played my entire life to get to the highest stage and now I'm here.
