DURHAM, N.C. – No. 10 Duke women's lacrosse fell to top-ranked North Carolina, 18-6, inside Koskinen Stadium Thursday night. The Blue Devils dip to 12-4 overall and 6-3 in ACC games, while the Tar Heels remain undefeated with a 15-0 record and a 9-0 ledger in conference games.
How It Happened
- North Carolina opened the game with a six-goal run to take the early lead. Duke's first score came with 17 seconds remaining in the first period, as redshirt sophomore Eva Pronti fed sophomore Bella Goodwin, who slotted the ball into the back of the cage.
- Duke decreased UNC's lead to 6-2 to open the second quarter, as redshirt sophomore Ava Biancardi scored off an assist from senior Carly Bernstein.
- The Tar Heels pushed the lead to 9-2, going on a three-goal run stretching from the 13:06 mark to the 7:47 mark. Bernstein responded with 6:15 remaining in the first half, making it a 9-3 UNC lead.
- The Tar Heels scored four more goals to close out the half, heading into the break leading 13-3.
- North Carolina held Duke scoreless the entire third period while slotting in three goals, pushing its advantage to 16-3 to enter the final quarter.
- The Tar Heels opened the fourth period with two goals to extend their lead to 18-3.
- Duke scored the final three goals of the game. Biancardi scored with 6:40 seconds remaining in the game off a Bernstein feed, and Bernstein scored less than a minute later. Redshirt freshman Reagan Digby notched the final goal of the game, rounding out the 18-6 Tar Heel triumph.
