WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – History was made Saturday evening for Duke track and field as the Blue Devil men parlayed a phenomenal day of competition into their first ACC Championship – indoor or outdoor – in program history.
Duke's men culminated the three-day conference meet with a strong final day of competition posting medals in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m events while totaling 29 points for the day, finishing the weekend with 86 points to lock down the first-place finish. The Blue Devil women also competed well on Saturday with the team medaling in four events – the 200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m – en route to finishing fifth overall with 72 points.
Overall, the Blue Devils concluded the 2025 ACC Outdoor Championships with titles in the men's hammer throw, men's pole vault and women's 4x400m relay. Duke totaled 14 medals and 33 All-ACC honors.
TOP PERFORMANCES:
- Duke saw the men's 4x400m school record come crashing down thanks to the efforts of TJ Clayton, Andres Langston, Joseph Taylor and Callum Robinson. Following a slow start to the race, Taylor and Robinson turned in phenomenal splits of 44.93 seconds and 45.10 seconds, respectively, across the final two legs to power the Blue Devils to a final time of 3:04.49, the bronze medal and All-ACC Second Team status. The third-place finish garnered six points for Duke to push its total to 86 for the weekend, propelling the Blue Devil men to their first ACC team title.
- The Blue Devil women capped the evening with a bang as the quartet of Aliya Garozzo, Julia Jackson, Megan McGinnis and Lauren Tolbert pulled off an incredible comeback to garner ACC gold in the women's 4x400m. Keyed by blistering third and anchor legs by McGinnis (51.87) and Tolbert (50.17), respectively, the Duke completed its rally and finished with a final time of 3:28.81 to claim the win while slotting themselves No. 3 in program lore.
- Individually, Taylor delivered performances for the Duke record books in the men's 400m and 200m races, culminating in silver and bronze medals, respectively, All-ACC First Team honors and the top spot on the Duke charts.
- In the 400m, Taylor dashed a huge personal best of 44.98 seconds to finish runner-up. The time unseated Steven Solomon's (45.30) 2018 mark for Duke. The 200m dash saw Taylor take third and improve his own school record as the rookie crossed the finish line in 20.55 seconds.
- On the women's side, Baker garnered silver in the women's 400m after delivering the fastest race of her collegiate career. The rookie clocked a personal best of 51.69 seconds to finish runner-up, slotting herself No. 3 all-time at Duke in the process. She collected her second individual medal of the weekend later in the day – this one coming in the women's 200m – after dashing an all-conditions best of 22.83 seconds to garner the bronze and All-ACC First Team status.
- Duke's women's 4x100m claimed the first medal of the day as the foursome of Mia Edim, Abby Geiser, Meredith Sims and Baker turned in a time of 43.97 seconds to earn bronze and All-ACC Second Team recognition.
- Graduate student Birgen Nelson posted a strong performance in the women's100m hurdles as she parlayed a time of 13.42 seconds into the bronze medal and first-team all-league recognition.
- The women's 400m hurdles saw graduate student Aliya Garozzo sprint her way to the bronze medal and a spot on the first team courtesy of a time of 56.60 seconds.
- Julia Magliaro (fourth) and Shaolin Munir (sixth) kicked off the Saturday slate of events for the Blue Devils in the women's javelin, where the sophomore and freshman earned spots on the all-conference second team. Both Blue Devils made their respective second throws the best of the competition, with Magliaro posting a mark of 49.46m (162-3 feet) while Munir launched the javelin 45.79m (150-2 feet).
- Taking part in the men's 800m final, Aden Bandukwala cemented himself atop the Duke charts via a strong performance. Bandukwala placed fifth and was named second-team all-conference courtesy of a 1:46.99 PR, jumping two spots up the program leaderboard to No. 1 all-time.
- Tolbert represented the Blue Devils in the women's 800m and locked down a spot on the All-ACC Second Team after crossing the finish line in 2:01.98, taking fifth overall.
- The men's 4x100m also made some noise Saturday as the quartet of Taylor, Robinson, Jeremiah Lauzon and Clayton clocked a season best of 39.33 to improve their own school record.
- Graduate student Jack Stanley registered a personal best in the 5,000m en route to running his way into the program record books, crossing the finish line in 13:53.13 to slot himself No. 4 all-time in Duke lore.
