Brady Kirkpatrick was hired as the Blue Devils pitching coach in July 2022, arriving from Florida Atlantic where he served in a similar capacity. He was elevated to Associate Head Coach on Aug. 1, 2024.

Kirkpatrick and the Blue Devils’ pitching staff guided Duke to a 40-20 record and an ACC Tournament Title during the 2024 campaign. The Blue Devils staff, led by ace Jonathan Santucci and closer Charlie Beilenson, held opponents to 4.86 runs per game this season and limited opponents’ batting averages to a .220 average.

Duke saw five pitchers get selected in the 2024 MLB Draft, the most in a single draft since 2015, including Santucci being taken in the second round by the New York Mets. Kirkpatrick has now seen seven former Blue Devils drafted in the past two seasons, as well as helped produce the first consensus First Team All-American in program history in Charlie Beilenson. Beilenson was additionally a stopper of the year finalist and Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist.

In his first season at the helm of the pitching staff, Kirkpatrick helped Duke to a 39-24 record and the program’s third Super Regional appearance, utilizing an opener strategy on the mound. Led by appearance leader (39) and program record holder Charlie Beilenson, Duke set a program mark for strikeouts with 675, tying the most games played in a single season at 63.

Following the 2023 season, Kirkpatrick and the Blue Devils saw Fran Oschell III and James Tallon tabbed as All-Americans, while Tallon and fellow freshman Andrew Healy were named Freshman All-Americans. Healy earned All-American status, following a 5-0 record on the mound in April, posting a 0.00 ERA, while Tallon set the single season saves record, tallying 12 on the season. The 2023 MLB Draft featured two hurlers getting drafted under Kirkpatrick, as Adam Boucher was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays and Luke Fox was selected by the Dodgers.

Kirkpatrick helped FAU to a 35-22 mark in 2022 behind starters Tyler Burnham and Hunter Cooley who combined for a 15-5 record on the mound. Cooley, the workhouse for the Owls, made 15 starts, tossed two complete games, and logged 104 innings with 79 strikeouts against just 17 walks on his way to second-team All-Conference USA honors.
Before his one year at Florida Atlantic, Kirkpatrick spent the previous three at Harvard, where he helped lead the team to the 2019 Ivy League Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance -- each the program’s first since 2005. The Crimson’s 27 wins that year were also the most since 2005.
Before Harvard, he coached for two seasons at Monmouth, which included the 2018 MAAC regular-season title – the same year the Hawks set the program’s single-season strikeout record. His resume also includes a stop at Rochester University as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in 2016.
No stranger to the ACC, Kirkpatrick pitched three years at Maryland and his final college season at San Diego. In 2014, he was part of the Terrapins’ first Super Regional team. He began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at USD as he earned his master’s degree in global business leadership in 2015.
The Eugene, Oregon native earned his undergraduate degree in criminology and criminal justice from Maryland. As a Terp, he earned the Scholar-Athlete Award for consecutive seasons, and he was a SAAC representative at both UMD and USD, as well as for the West Coast Conference while at San Diego.
