Robert Brickey begins his first year with the women’s basketball program, joining the Blue Devils as the Assistant Director of Basketball Operations. Brickey rejoins the Blue Devil family after a three-year stint as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Shaw University. He will coordinate off-campus camps and on-campus recruiting, and coordinate various marketing efforts. Prior to his arrival at Shaw, Brickey was an assistant coach at James Madison (2004-05), Southern Methodist (2002-04), and the United States Military Academy (2000-02).
This marks the second stint as a Duke staff member for Brickey, as he was the Community Outreach Coordinator with the Blue Devils in 1999-2000 prior to getting into the coaching business.
A native of Fayetteville, N.C., Brickey played four years at Duke from the 1986-87 season through the 1989-90 season. He served as team captain in 1990 and received first team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament honors in 1988. He was a member of three Final Four teams and started in the national championship game in 1990.
Known for his athleticism, Brickey had a brief stint with the Global Basketball Association’s Fayetteville Flyers in the early 1990s. He received his bachelor of arts degree in political science from Duke University.
Brickey has one daughter, Kristine (16) who resides in Gastonia, N.C.
