Martin blossomed as a junior at Duke, becoming the dominant steeplechaser for the Blue Devils. He ran the four fastest steeplechase times in 2001, with a best of 9:20.50. Martin was destined for an even faster time and a possible ACC runner-up finish when he clipped a hurdle for a sixth place finish. His shining moment as a junior was his first collegiate victory two weeks later at the George Mason Invite, when he captured the 3,000-meter run in 8:39.84. Martin has also been a solid runner for the cross country team.
