Taren Moore (née Cherry) rejoined Duke Athletics in January 2023 after a previous stint of five years in Durham from August 2016 through July 2021. She currently serves as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, People, Culture and Community, and is also a member of the department’s executive staff.

After her role as Duke’s Executive Director of Human Resources, Moore joined the University of Tennessee’s athletic department in July 2021 as Assistant Athletics Director, #Culture. In this capacity, she managed hiring processes, facilitated onboarding for new staff and provided employee relations consulting, among other responsibilities. Moore actively contributed to the development and implementation of culture-enhancing programs aimed at fostering employee engagement. Additionally, she collaborated with the Tennessee Athletics leadership team to identify and address challenges within the department.

Initially joining Duke Athletics in August 2016, Moore eventually served as the Executive Director of Human Resources. Before assuming this position in June 2018, she spent nearly two years as a Compliance Coordinator.

A native of Greenville, N.C., Moore graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science. She went on to receive a Juris Doctor degree from North Carolina Central University’s School of Law in May 2016.

During her time in law school, Moore was a participant in the 2015 Oregon Law Summer Sports Institute where she studied numerous issues related to sports and law. She also was a legal intern for North Carolina Central University Office of Legal Affairs, conducting research in areas related to higher education law and university-wide compliance.
