CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- Duke University sophomore Jennie Lee battled cold and rainy conditions on day one of the Tar Heel Invitational and fired an even-par, 72, on Friday to lead the individual action at the 6,285-Yard, Par 72 Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.

As a team, the Blue Devils opened in a tie for third place after turning in a 303 on day one. Leading the field is Vanderbilt (301), while Tennessee (302), Duke (303), Virginia (303), North Carolina (304), North Carolina State (306), Texas A&M (306), College of Charleston (308), South Carolina (309), Ohio State (310) and Florida State (310) round out the top-11 schools.

A native of Henderson, Nev., Lee opened her day on hole eight with a par but then had a bogey on No. 9. She rebounded with six straight pars before collected birdies on No. 16 and No. 17 to move to one-under-par for the day. Lee went on to post seven more pars before closing out the day with a bogey on the par four seventh hole. She leads the tournament by one stroke over Texas A&M's Ashley Knoll, Tennessee's Marci Turner and Florida State's Caroline Westrup.

Both Amanda Blumenherst and Jennifer Pandolfi each turned in rounds of four-over-par, 76, on Friday and are tied for 21st. Pandolfi registered two birdies on the day, while Blumenherst had one. Closing out the Blue Devils on day one were senior Anna Grzebien and freshman Alison Whitaker, who each had rounds of 79. Both golfers struggled on the day without making a birdie and are tied for 47th.

The average score on Friday with the cold and rainy conditions was 78.69 for the field. As a team, Duke finished with only five birdies on the day.

Duke will tee off on Saturday beginning at 9:45 a.m. along with North Carolina
