CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Duke women's swimming team began action at the 2007 ACC Championships on Wednesday evening at the University of North Carolina's Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, N.C., and sits in ninth place after two events.
The Blue Devil 800 freestyle relay team of senior Michelle Aristeo, freshmen Jackie Fasano and Shannon Skinner and sophomore Emily Kelly got things started for Duke, as the four finished 11th with a finals time of 7:40.27 to contribute 12 points to Duke's team score.
In the 200 medley relay event, the Duke team of sophomore Erin Frizzell, senior Jackie Rodriguez, freshman Shannon Beall and junior Danielle Spearman touched in 1:46.09 to take eighth place and notch 22 points. That time is a Duke women's 200 medley relay season-best.
Duke finished the night with 34 points, and heads into day two of championship action in ninth place. Host North Carolina is currently in first place with 72 points, while Florida State (70) and Virginia (64) round out the top three.
Tomorrow's events will begin at 11 a.m. with the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle preliminaries. At 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., men's 3-meter diving prelims and women's 1-meter diving prelims will commence, followed by the men's 3-meter diving finals. At 7 p.m., the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, women's 1-meter diving and 200 freestyle relay finals will get under way.
The 2007 ACC Women's Swimming Championships will continue through Saturday, Feb. 17, with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. each day and finals set to begin at 7 p.m. each evening. The 2007 Platform Diving Championships will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, at Duke's Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion at 10 a.m.
The 2007 ACC Men's Swimming Championships will be held Feb. 21-24 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
