Murrells Inlet, S.C. -- Three Blue Devils fired one-under 71s on Monday in the final round of the General Jim Hackler Championship to lead Duke to a one-over 289 on the day and a four-over 868 for the tournament. Freshmen Adam Long and Jeff Edelman along with senior Jake Grodzinsky each shot 71s in the final round as Duke capped off of fourth place finish at the event.
Long carded five birdies in the round but suffered a double-bogey on the final hole for his second straight round of under-par golf at the TPC of Myrtle Beach. He closed the tournament tied for 13th with a three-round total 74-69-71=214 (-2).
Grodzinsky also had five birdies and 10 pars on the day before carding a double-bogey on No. 18 and finishing with a 71 for the second straight round. The Cornville, Ariz., native finished tied for 18th overall with an even-par 216 (74-71-71).
Edelman's round of 71 included nine pars, two birdies and a pair of eagles. The Southlake, Texas, native tied for 23rd at the Hackler Championship (the highest finish of his career) with a three-round score of 75-71-71=217 (+1).
Junior Michael Schachner birdies his second hole of the day before dropping four strokes over the next three holes. He played the remaining 13 holes of the final round at even-par to finish with a 76 and a three-round total of 223 (73-74-76).
Clark Klaasen started well with three birdies on the first five holes and entered the back nine with a one-under 35. After three straight pars, he carded a bogey and three straight double-bogeys to drop to seven-over on the day. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native rebounded to birdie the final hole and finish at 10-over (73-75-78=226) for the tournament.
Bryce Mueller, competing as an individual, fired rounds of 77-76-76=229 (+13) to finish tied for 75th.
Lamar won the event with a tournament record 26-under 838. Host Coastal Carolina shot a 12-under 276 in the final round to finish second with a 16-under 848, while Southern Cal finished third at 13-under (851). East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies, ranked third nationally, posted his second tournament victory and third straight top-two finish in the event, shooting a tournament-record 10-under 216 to win by one shot over Lamar's Dawie van der Walt (No. 15) and two better than Oliver Bekker, also of Lamar.
