DURHAM, N.C. -- The fourth-ranked Duke men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday by traveling to meet ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins on Saturday at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md. Face-off is set for 1 p.m., and the game will be televised live by WMAR and ESPNU.
The Blue Devils have won three in a row and stand at 8-2 on the year. Duke has received a recent offensive lift from sophomore midfielder Ned Crotty, who has 11 goals over the past six games including two tallies in each of the last three contests. Senior attackman Matt Danowski continues to lead the team in scoring with 44 points on 24 goals and 20 assists and is the only player in the country with 20 or more goals and 20 or more assists to his credit.
The Blue Jays are 4-3 with wins over Princeton, UMBC, Syracuse and Hofstra and losses to Albany, Virginia and North Carolina. Johns Hopkins enters this week's tilt coming off consecutive defeats, but has not dropped three in a row since the 1990 campaign. Steven Boyle paces the club in scoring with 20 points on 12 goals and eight assists while Jake Byrne has tossed in a team-best 13 goals.
Johns Hopkins leads the all-time series with Duke, 10-2, and the Blue Jays have won four straight over the Blue Devils including a 9-8 decision in the 2005 NCAA title game. Duke's only two wins came in 1951 (9-7) and 1997 (12-11 in OT) with the 1997 victory coming in the NCAA Quarterfinals in College Park, Md. The series began with a 22-0 Hopkins triumph in 1942.
