BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. ? Top-ranked Duke opened in third place at the 2007 Bryan National Collegiate as the Blue Devils turned in a 292 on Friday at the 6,386-yard, Par 72 Bryan Park Champions Course in Browns Summitt, N.C.
Purdue opened the action with a two-over-par, 290, to lead the team play with North Carolina (291), Duke (292), South Carolina (297), Florida (298), Virginia (300), Auburn (301), Georgia (303), Tennessee (305) and North Carolina Wilmington (306) rounded out the top 10. Leading the individual action is Jenna Person from South Carolina with a four-under-par, 68.
For the Blue Devils, junior Jennifer Pandolfi continued her stellar play at the Bryan National with an even par 72 on the first day of action. A product of Navarre, Fla., had turned in two top-10 finishes in her other two times playing in the Bryan National. Last year she finished tied for ninth with a 221 and as a freshman was tied for third with a 219. On Friday, Pandolfi collected a team-best five birdies and matched a tournament-best with her five birdies. She is tied for seventh along with four other golfers.
After leading the first nine rounds of the spring season, sophomore Amanda Blumenherst turned in a one-over-par, 73, on Friday and is tied for 12th, which is five strokes off the lead. The native of Scottsdale, Ariz., had a solid day with 14 pars, two birdies, one bogey and one double-bogey. Blumenherst played the final 13 holes at one-under-par after suffering a double-bogey on fifth hole. She has won each of the three tournaments of the spring and has won six over her career.
Sophomore Jennie Lee is tied for 12th with a 73 as she registered two birdies and three bogies. Both senior Anna Grzebien and freshman Alison Whitaker each posted rounds of 74 and are tied for 18th.
As a team, the Blue Devils posted 12 birdies on the afternoon. Due to frost warnings at night, tee times will open at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday to close out the tournament.
