DURHAM, N.C.? Duke University junior Christie McDonald has been selected second team NSCAA/adidas Women's Scholar All-America, after compiling a 3.48 grade-point-average as an English major.
McDonald was one of the key members of the 2007 Duke women's soccer team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA College Cup before falling, 3-2, at 12th-ranked Notre Dame. The Blue Devils finished the season ranked 15th nationally in the NSCAA/adidas poll with a 10-6-7 overall record.
A defender from Newnan, Ga., McDonald helped the Blue Devils compile nine shutouts on the season, while also allowing only one goal in eight matches. McDonald started all 23 contests for Duke and collected a career-best five assists on the season. She posted assists against Elon (2), San Francisco, Dartmouth and 21st-ranked South Carolina.
Over her three-year career with the Blue Devils, McDonald has played in 61 matches, posted six goals, seven assists and 19 points to go along with two game-winning goals.
McDonald was one of four Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) players selected on the first and second teams. Earlier in the season, McDonald was also named ESPN The Magazine third team Academic All-District III.
