DURHAM, N.C.?Duke University redshirt juniors John Barone and Konrad Dudziak earned spots in another national poll today as they both were voted into the top-20 in the USA Today/NWCA/InterMat Individual Rankings. Barone and Dudziak most recently were ranked 18th and 11th, respectively, by WrestlingReport.com.
Barone remained at 18th in the poll at 184 pounds. He debuted at No. 19 on Nov. 18 and moved up a spot after capturing top honors at the Navy Classic the following week. A native of Shirley, N.Y., he is 15-0 overall on the season with three tournament titles to his name. He most recently captured top honors at the Navy Classic. Barone headed to Annapolis, Md. ranked 19th in the nation and seeded first in his division and allowed his four opponents to register just 13 overall points. He preceded his victory at the Navy Classic with wins at the Wolfpack Open and Hokie Open. Barone has two falls and four technical falls overall on the year.
Dudziak remained in the 13th spot at heavyweight after debuting there in the Nov. 26 poll following his stellar performance at the Navy Classic. Seeded second in the tournament, he upset then No. 5 Scott Steele of Navy to remain undefeated and win the title. Dudziak sports a 14-0 mark and three tournament championships and is the highest ranked wrestler from the ACC at heavyweight. He preceded his win at the Navy Classic with titles at the Wolfpack Open and Hokie Open. Overall on the season, Dudziak has three falls and one technical fall.
The Blue Devils resume action this weekend, Dec. 6, at the Davidson Open.
