Duncan Opens LSU Classic Tied for Third

BATON ROUGE, La. - Duke University sophomore Lindy Duncan carded an even-par, 72, on Friday as the third-ranked Duke women's golf team opened action at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic, which is being played at the 6,186-yard, par 72 University Club in Baton Rouge, La.

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Duncan is tied for third individually as she notched two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars on the day. She totaled 31 putts, while hitting 12 greens and eight fairways.

Leading the individual action is Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary and North Carolina's Catherine O'Donnell with one-under-par, 71, scores. Along with Duncan at even par is Wake Forest's Michelle Shin, LSU's Megan McChrystal and N.C. State's Amanda Baker.

In the team play, Wake Forest opened with a four shot lead as the Demon Deacons turned in a six-over-par, 294. Texas A&M (298), LSU (300), Duke (300), Alabama (301), Virginia (301), Louisville (303), North Carolina (304), Arkansas (305) and Tennessee (305) round out the top 10.

Sophomore Stacey Kim collected her second-best round of the season on Friday as she fired a one-over-par, 73, and is tied for seventh. Kim, who is from Columbus, Ga., matched a team high with four birdies and closed strong with birdies on No. 17 and No. 18.

With the best start of the day, freshman Alejandra Cangrejo posted four birdies over her first 10 holes to move to four-under-par and was the individual leader. A product of Bogota, Columbia, Cangrejo suffered a triple-bogey on No. 12 and then closed her day with five consecutive bogeys to finish with a 76. She enters round two tied for 29th.

Freshman Laetitia Beck and senior Kim Donovan each struggled to open the tournament as the duo finished with rounds of 79 and 85, respectively.

As a team, Duke turned in 12 birdies. The Blue Devils will open Saturday's round at 10:30 a.m.
