DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University sophomore standouts
Gilda Doria and
Libby Jandl each led their respective club teams to Region titles over the weekend and will next compete in the national championships.
Jandl, who is a product of Mission Hills, Kan., led her KC Dynamos squad to a 3-0-1 record and scored the game-winning goal in a 6-1 semifinal victory. She played center back throughout the tournament. Jandl's squad will take part in the 2011 USASA National Cup U23 finals on July 15-17 in Bowling Green, Ky.
A native of Boca Raton, Fla., Doria guided her Team Boca squad to a 6-0 record during the tournament, including a 2-1 win in the championship against Ponte Vedre Storm. The regional championship for Team Boca is the first since its U18 girls team won in 1994. Doria and Team Boca will next head to the national championships from July 26-31 in Phoenix, Ariz.
