Day One at Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- The Duke men's golf team is in sixth at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club after posting rounds of 287 and 294 Monday. A quartet of Blue Devils - Adam Wood, Jake Shuman, Max Greyserman and Michael Ricaurte - are tied for 19th overall with 36-hole scores of 146.
Oregon holds the 36-hole lead with an eight-over 568 with Washington two shots off the pace and followed by Texas (571), Oklahoma (572), Stanford (574) and Duke (581).
Thomas Lim (Oregon) holds a three shot lead after shooting 66-65, three shots better than Cheng-Tsung Pan (Washington). Maverick McNealy (Stanford) and Michael Gellerman (Oklahoma) are also under-par at -3 and -1, respectively.
Wood collected five birdies en route to a 71 in round one but was hindered by four bogeys on his opening nine holes (10-18) and a double-bogey on No. 5. The Zionsville, Ind., native birdied No. 2 in the afternoon but had three straight bogeys before another birdie on the par 4 sixth hole. He dipped to three-over following a double-bogey on No. 7. He carded nine pars and two bogeys the rest of the way for a 75.
Shuman, a freshman out of Massachusetts, shot a one-over 71 in the opening round before staggering down the stretch of the second round en route to a 75. He carded 13 pars, two birdies and three bogeys in the morning session. Shuman was one-over in the second round after a birdie on No. 11 before playing the final four holes at four-over with two bogeys and a double-bogey.
Greyserman began and ended each round Monday with birdies en route to a six-over 146 (72-74). He opened with a birdie on No. 10 in the morning session but was saddled by five bogeys over the next 10 holes. He recovered with six straight pars before closing with a birdie on No. 9. In the afternoon, Greyserman birdied No. 1 before suffering three straight bogeys. He added a birdie on No. 7 but again stumbled with four straight bogeys. Greyserman responded with six straight pars and a birdie on No. 18.
Ricaurte posted back-to-back rounds of 73 and enters the final round tied for xth with a six-over 146. He posted four birdies in the opening round but was hindered by four bogeys over a five-hole stretch early in the round. Ricaurte carded four straight pars to open the second round before birdies on No. 5 and No. 6 moved him to two-under. He dipped back to even-par following bogeys on No. 7 and No. 11 before parring the next three holes. Ricaurte stumbled down the stretch with three bogeys over the final four holes for his second round of 73.
Senior Turner Southey-Gordon is tied for 28th after rounds of 76 and 72. He struggled in the morning session with five bogeys over the first eight holes before settling in to play the next 10 holes at one-over. The left-gander from Canada reversed his fortune in round two with birdies on No. 1 and No. 2. He remained in red figures until suffering a triple-bogey on No. 7 and made the turn at one-over after a birdie on No. 9. Southey-Gordon played one-over golf on the back nine with six pars, one birdie and a pair of bogeys.
Duke will be paired with Oklahoma and Stanford for Tuesday's final round and begin play at 8:00 a.m. Live scoring for the event is available at www.golfstat.com.
