LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The Duke men's tennis team finished its fall campaign with a weather-shortened Sunday at the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic. An all Blue Devil main draw singles championship was set before delays caused Duke had to exit the tournament due to travel plans. Duke did, however, take second in the doubles main draw.
Junior Bruno Semenzato and senior Raphael Hemmeler each won their main draw singles semifinal matches to reach the championship before the delays caused the final to not be played. Semenzato advanced with a 6-1, 6-2 win against the draw's top seed, Princeton's Zack McCourt. Hemmeler also won in straight sets versus a Tiger, topping Princeton's Thomas Colutti 6-3, 6-3.
In the singles consolation bracket, junior Josh Levine's match was halted due to weather with the first set of the semifinals tied 3-3 against Princeton's Joshua Yablon.
Hemmeler and Levine were in the doubles championship but fell to top seed Caio Gomes and Yannick Zuern of North Florida 8-5.
The Blue Devils return to action in 2015 with the start of the spring campaign. Duke will travel to Waikiki, Hawai'i, from Jan. 4-10 to take part in the Rainbow Warrior Classic.
