
Tennis Continues Fall Action At Duke Fab Four

CARY, N.C. – Playing only singles on Saturday, Duke had one player advance to the finals and one move to the consolation finals on the second day of action at the Duke Fab Four Invitational, held at the Cary Tennis Park.
Junior Bruno Semenzato won both of his Saturday matches to move to the white draw's championship. Semenzato downed Louisville's Michael Lippens 6-4, 6-2 and then N.C. State's Ian Dempster 7-6 (4), 6-1 to reach the championship. Semenzato will take on Kentucky's Beck Pennington on Sunday morning for the draw's title.
In the black draw, freshman Nicolas Alvarez advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Elon's Josh Luck but fell to N.C. State's Austin Powell 6-2, 6-1. Alvarez will take on Wake Forest's Sam Bloom in the third-place match Sunday morning. Senior Raphael Hemmeler suffered a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 setback to Bloom in the quarterfinals. Hemmeler bounced back with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Radford's Michiel Meekers. Hemmeler will face Louisville's Jeffrey Brown in the fifth-place match on Sunday. Rounding out the black draw, junior Daniel McCall was given a bye in the consolation semifinals before earning a 7-5, 6-2 victory against William & Mary's Christian Cargill. McCall will face William & Mary's Will Juggins Sunday in the consolation finals.
The Blue Devils will have a representative in blue draw's fifth-place match Sunday. Redshirt senior Cale Hammond was defeated by N.C. State's Beck Bond 6-2, 6-3. Hammond downed Wake Forest's Anthony Delcore 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the fifth-place match on Sunday, when he'll take on VCU's Joseph Cohen. Redshirt senior Chris Mengel also suffered a setback to the Wolfpack on Saturday, falling to Simon Norenius 6-4, 6-4 before withdrawing against Cohen.
The Fab Four will wrap up Sunday with doubles and singles championships. The action begins at 9 a.m.
