
Duke Turns In Strong Qualifying Round

TULSA, Okla. – Duke continued action at the ITA Men's All-American Championships on Monday with the first round of the qualifying singles. Four Blue Devils were in action, combining to post a 3-1 record.
Freshman Nicolas Alvarez started the day for Duke with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Georgia Tech's Nathan Rakitt. Alvarez advances to Tuesday's second round, where he will face Ole Miss' Stefan Lindmark at approximately 9 a.m. ET.
Redshirt senior Chris Mengel faced Illinois' Aleks Vukic in the first round and suffered a 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-1 setback.
Junior Bruno Semenzato continued his strong start to the fall season with a 6-2, 6-3 win versus Virginia Tech's Joao Monteiro. Semenzato moves on to a second round matchup against N.C. State's Nick Horton at approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Completing Duke's qualifying action Monday was senior Raphael Hemmeler, who topped Michigan's AlexPetrone in a tight match 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (3). Hemmeler returns to the court Tuesday around noon to play Georgia's Nick Wood.
In addition to the four singles matches in the qualifying round, junior Daniel McCall finished his prequalifying play with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against SIU-Carbondale's Ransom Braaten in the consolation bracket.
