DURHAM, N.C. – Following a two-goal performance against No. 10 Liberty that included the game winner in overtime, junior forward Heather Morris has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week. Morris is the fifth Blue Devil to garner weekly recognition from the ACC this season.
Morris recorded the first score of Saturday's regular season finale in Lynchburg on Duke's third penalty corner opportunity, putting away a shot on an Aileen Johnson assist. After the Flames knotted the score at 2-2 late in the second half to force overtime, Morris took a ball down the middle of the field and beat Liberty goalkeeper Mallory Cuccio to seal the 3-2 victory for the Blue Devils in the 73rd minute.
The performance marked Morris' second multiple-goal effort of the season and pushed her team-leading season goals total into double digits (10) for the first time in her career.
The Pottstown, Pa., native currently ranks eighth in the ACC in goals per game (0.59) and is 10th in points per game (1.41).
Morris and the Blue Devils (12-5) head to Charlottesville, Va., as the No. 5 seed in the 2015 ACC Championship. Duke faces No. 4 seed Virginia (13-4) in Thursday's quarterfinals at 11 a.m. on RSN/ESPN3.
