DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke cross country and track & field teams will welcome the addition of a strong freshman class on the men's side for this upcoming season. A group that represents states across the country, the incoming freshmen will look to make an immediate impact on the program.
"Our men's incoming freshman class does a great job of addressing needs,” Director of Track & Field Norm Ogilvie said. “We gained three excellent distance runners to help with cross country, while also adding to our always strong middle-distance, throws and long sprint groups, as well as the high jump. This class has a great chance to help out right away."

Zachary Alhamra – Pine Creek H.S. (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Prior to Duke: Named the 2013 Colorado Gatorade Runner of the Year…garnered All-America accolades following a 20th-place finish at the 2013 Nike Cross Nationals…broke the 15-minute barrier at the 2014 Liberty Bell Cross Country Invitational, clocking a time of 14:58 for 5K at altitude.

Jimmy Asselmeyer – Arlington H.S. (LaGrangeville, N.Y.)
Prior to Duke: Specializing as a mid-distance runner, ran a winning time of 2:25.86 in the 1,000 at the New York Section 1 State Qualifier, ranking as the fastest time in the state and No. 2 nationally during the 2015 indoor season…claimed gold in the 800 at both the 2015 New York Section 1 Class A Championships and the Northern Counties Championships as a senior…clocked a personal-best 1:52.63 to take second at the Louckes Games, the seventh-fastest 800 time in New York during the 2015 outdoor season…ran a career-best 1,600 to win the event at the New York Section 1 Class A Championships his junior season, completing the race in 4:15.16…nabbed gold at the Rockland & Northern Counties Championships during the 2014 indoor season with a personal-record performance of 4:20.46…finished 11th at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the 800 with a 1:53.16, ranking fourth in the state in 2015.

Iyin Battle – East Chapel Hill H.S. (Chapel Hill, N.C.)
Prior to Duke: A discus specialist who will also learn the hammer upon arriving at Duke...as a senior, earned silver in the discus at the North Carolina 4A State Meet...finished eighth overall in the event at the 2015 USATF Junior Olympics National Championships in the 17-18 division...his junior season, finished fourth at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals - Emerging Elites meet...throwing the shot put indoors, captured the bronze medal at the 2014 state championships.

Stephen Garrett – Tatnall H.S. (Wilmington, Del.)
Prior to Duke: Four-time all-state first team selection…participated in the 2013 Nike Cross Country Nationals as a junior, clocking a time of 16:08…helped Tatnall to the 2014 DISC Championships by capturing the individual title at the meet with a 5K time of 15:21 on the Bellevue course, garnering DISC All-Conference honors in the process…Indoors, set personal-best times of 8:35.2 for 3,000 and 9:11.1 for 3,200…Outdoors, set a personal-best time of 8:27.1 for 3,000 meters…owns a personal-best 1,600 time of 4:17.13 and a personal-best 3,200m time of 9:10.40.

Austin Nobis – Bishop Gorman H.S. (Las Vegas, Nev.)
Prior to Duke: Racing at the 2015 Nevada Division I State Meet, finished sixth in the 400 with a 48.98 showing… won the 400 at the Cherry & Silver All-Comers meet with a 49.75, the second-fastest time in the state of Nevada during the 2015 indoor season…also placed third in the 200 at the same meet with a 22.91, the fastest performance in Nevada…as a junior, ran personal-best outdoor times of 22.19 and 48.37 in the 200 and 400, respectively…held the No. 1 spot in the 400 (48.96) and No. 2 ranking in the 200 (22.23) during the 2014 indoor campaign.

Nikhil Pulimood – West Windsor-Plainsboro South H.S. (West Windsor Township, N.J.)
Prior to Duke: Garnered 2014 Gatorade New Jersey Cross Country Runner of the Year honors…claimed All-America status after placing 21st at Nike Cross Country Nationals…raced to a third-place finish at the Nike Cross Country Northeast Regional meet…crowned the 2014 Group 4 individual state cross country champion with a 5K time of 15:44, before placing second at the State Meet of Champions in a time of 15:42…helped lead team to a New Jersey Group 4 cross country state title in 2013…earned myriad New Jersey Group 4 titles, including in cross country (2014), the outdoor 3,200 (2014, 2015), the indoor 3,200 (2015), and the outdoor 1,600 (2015), in addition to serving on the indoor distance medley relay (2015) and the indoor 4x800 (2015).

Rivers Ridout – Searcy H.S. (Searcy, Ark.)
Prior to Duke: A high-jump specialist, owns the Searcy High School record with a jump of 6-10.00 (2.08), the top mark in the state of Arkansas during the 2015 campaign…undefeated during his senior outdoor season...cleared 6-8.00 (2.03) to win the Arkansas Meet of Champions...captured gold in the high jump at the Arkansas 6A State Meet…competed in long jump during the indoor campaign, placing sixth at the Arkansas 5A-7A Indoor State Meet with a leap of 21-1.00 (6.43)…also a standout in football, basketball and soccer, highlighted by helping Searcy win the 2013 6A state title in men's soccer.

Prior to Duke: Two-time state champion in the 4x100 as a junior and senior, capturing gold at both the 2014 and 2015 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) State Track & Field Championships…finished runner-up at the 2015 state meet in the 4x200…placed third in the 400 at the 2014 state championships, crossing the line with a 49.53 showing…selected to the TAPPS all-state boys track & field first team in 2013, 2014 and 2015…was a four-time TAPPS academic all-state first team honoree from 2012-15.

Prior to Duke: Graduated as the Scranton Prep school-record holder in the javelin…as a junior, received all-region, all-state and All-America status and was ranked fifth nationally in the javelin among high school student-athletes…threw a personal-best 215-8 (65.74) to finish runner-up at the 2014 Chicagoland Summer Throw Series…finished second at the 2014 New Balance Outdoor Nationals with a mark of 214-5 (65.35)…during his senior season, finished as all-region selection, highlighted by finishing third at the 2015 Penn Relays.
