2015-16: Saw action in one 800 during the indoor campaign, taking the start at the Camel City Invitational (1/29)…participated in two meets during the outdoor season, including a 10th-place performance in the 800 at the Battle of the Blues (4/2)…did not compete during the 2015 cross country season…named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Prior to Duke: Four-year letterwinner in cross country and track & field at Arlington High School in LaGrangeville, N.Y., under the direction of coach Stephen Arnett…recipient of the Carl Redl Memorial Award, given by Arlington’s athletic director to the most outstanding student-athlete of the senior class…holds outdoor school records in the 800, 4x800 and distance medley relay, county records in the 800 and DMR and the section record in the DMR…owns the indoor school and county records for the 600, 800, 1,000 and 4x800, while also owning the 4x800 section record…four-time indoor and outdoor all-league and all-county selection…also earned a spot on the all-section team three times during both indoor and outdoor track & field as a sophomore, junior and senior…garnered All-America honors as part of Arlington’s DMR squad that took fourth at the 2014 New Balance Outdoor Nationals…ran a winning time of 2:25.86 in the 1,000 at the New York Section 1 State Qualifier, ranking as the fastest time in the state and No. 2 nationally during the 2015 indoor season…claimed gold in the 800 at both the 2015 New York Section 1 Class A Championships and the Northern Counties Championships as a senior…clocked a personal-best 1:52.63 to take second at the Louckes Games, the seventh-fastest 800 time in New York during the 2015 outdoor season…ran a career-best 1,600 to win the event at the New York Section 1 Class A Championships his junior season, completing the race in 4:15.16…nabbed gold at the Rockland & Northern Counties Championships during the 2014 indoor season with a personal-record performance of 4:20.46…finished 11th at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the 800 with a 1:53.16, ranking fourth in the state in 2015…in cross country, was a three-time all-league and all-county honoree…earned a selection to the all-section team as a senior…also was a member of a summer league swim team through his senior year and a travel baseball team until sophomore year…while at Arlington, was a member of the National Honor Society and received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award.
Personal: Son of James and Lisa Asselmeyer…born Oct. 30, 1996 in Danbury, Conn….has one brother, Michael, and two sisters, Lindsay and Lauren…uncle, Wayne Ryder (1970), and cousin, Jen Ryder (2013), are Duke graduates.
