TORRENCE, California – Duke track and field capped a strong and record-setting weekend in the Golden State on Saturday with the Blue Devils turning in a stellar showing on the final day of the Mt. SAC Relays producing four program records and six top-five program marks.
TOP PERFORMANCES:
- Comprised of Joseph Taylor, TJ Clayton, Andres Langston and Liam O'Hara, the men's 4x400m relay delivered the stoutest performance of the day en route to slotting themselves No.1 all-time in Duke lore. The Blue Devil quartet clocked blazing splits of 45.2 seconds, 45.5 seconds, 46.8 seconds and 47. 3 seconds, respectively, while finishing with an overall time of 3:04.73 (6th) – shattering the previous Duke record by nearly four seconds.
- Duke also displayed strong running in the men's and women's 4x100m as the Blue Devils unseated program records behind season-best performances. The Duke women's contingent of Mia Edim, Abby Geiser, Braelyn Baker and Meredith Sims clocked 43.42 seconds to finish runner-up, unseating the previous mark set a season ago. On the men's side, the unit of Clayton, Jeremiah Lauzon, Callum Robinson and O'Hara turned in a time of 39.98 seconds (9th), slotting themselves atop the Blue Devil charts.
- Michael Scherk produced a personal-best showing in the men's 110m hurdles with the sophomore crossing the finish line in 13.69 seconds to pick up a top-10 finish while improving his own school record in the process.
- Junior Lauren Tolbert notched the lone win of the day for the Blue Devils, earning the first-place finish in the 400m via the fastest race of her career. Tolbert clocked a personal best of 51.72 seconds to cement herself atop the 19-member field, improving her own No. 3 program mark.
- Rookie Phillips Moore took part in the men's hammer throw and carved out a spot for himself on the Duke charts by way of a personal best. Moore came through with his best throw on the fourth attempt, launching the hammer 61.72m (202-6 feet). The mark was good for fourth among the field and fourth all-time in program history.
- The Blue Devils opened the weekend with standout showings in the men's decathlon and women's javelin as the trio of Michael Bennett, Max Forte and Julia Magliaro parlayed personal-best efforts into top-five spots on the program charts.
- Forte posted the top collegiate point total (7,813) of the en route to placing fourth overall and moving into No. 2 all-time at Duke. He notched four top-five finishes across the multis event, headlined by a runner-up showing in the 100m dash (10.60 seconds).
- Bennett finished the competition with 7,586 points, moving the senior into No. 4 all-time in program lore. He tallied three placements inside the top five across the two days including a second-place finish of 4:27.26 in the 1500m race.
- Magliaro moved up to No. 3 all-time on the Duke women's javelin charts following the sophomore's huge throw of 53.51m (175-6 feet), which came on her second attempt.
