Durham, N.C. – GoDuke.com recently sat down with Palm Harbor, Fla., native and senior rower Sarah Wall to reflect on her four years at Duke.
GoDuke.com: What is a hidden gem either in Durham or on Campus?
Sarah Wall: The Eno River, because I can get lost for hours on end.
GoDuke.com: What's next in life after Duke?
SW: Medical school.
GoDuke.com: What is your proudest academic achievement at Duke?
SW: Making ACC honor roll every year and having the highest team GPA because it shows my dedication to being a student-athlete.
GoDuke.com: How did you get started in rowing and what made you fall in love with your sport?
SW: I had never heard of rowing before coming to Duke. I actually walked over to the rowing coach during orientation week because she had a golden retriever puppy. The rest is history.
I fell in love because you learn to put a team above yourself and I'll carry that lesson with me for the rest of my life.
GoDuke.com: What does Duke mean to you?
SW: Duke means constant growth and self-discovery.
GoDuke.com: What is a road trip memory you'll always have with you?
SW: I have never taken a road trip. My dad works for United so airplanes are our preferred mode of travel. I would one day love to drive along the West Coast.
GoDuke.com: What is one lesson Duke rowing, or your teammates, have taught you that you'll carry with you long after you leave Duke?
SW: Don't ever settle. You can always do more and be more.
GoDuke.com: What do you want a team 20 years from now to look back at your career and know?
SW: I had no idea what I was doing when I walked on freshman year and learned so much more about myself and my teammates than the sport itself through the years.
