DURHAM, N.C. – Three Duke rowers have accepted invitations to Women's U23 National Team Selection Camps for their respective countries. Senior Alex Stonehill will represent the United States while sophomores Jessica Findlay and Katherine Maitland will represent the United Kingdom.
The U23 rosters are comprised mainly of the top collegiate rowers, based on erg and water performances throughout the last year. Those selected to the team will compete for the 2016 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, from August 21-28.
Duke's three selections were all a member of the Blue Devils' V8 boat, which finished second at the ACC Championship last weekend. Stonehill received First Team All-ACC accolades after helping the boat jump from a No. 5 seed entering the event to the second-place showing. The V8 edged out Syracuse in a photo finish, 6:20.444 to 6:20.495, to come in second.
The V8's performance helped Duke finish second overall at the league championship, the program's best showing since a second-place finish in 2006.
Stonehill will report to Team USA's camp on June 8. The event will be held at Princeton University.
