DURHAM, N.C. – Two Duke freshmen swimmers earned themselves a spot in the programs' top-10 lists last weekend at Florida State.
Rookie distance swimmer
Brendan Driscoll broke into the 1,000 freestyle top-10 list following his performance against the Seminoles. Driscoll's time of 9:20.68 put him seventh in the Duke record books for that event, just behind teammate
Zach Washart.
Emma Shuppert also added her name into program lore for the 100 backstroke with her first-place finish in the event. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native's time of 55.05 was good enough for 10th all-time.
Two sophomore male swimmers recorded career best times down in the Sunshine State as well.
Matthew Whelan swam a 20.64 in the 50 free to record the best time in his career. The sprinter out of Richmond, Va., shaved .14 seconds off his previous time set at the 2018 Tennessee Invitational.
David Hallaron's 50.83 in the 100 backstroke against the Seminoles was good enough for his career best finish in the event. The Grapevine, Texas, native improved his time by .23 seconds.
Duke swimming and diving returns to action Saturday, against No. 15/8 Georgia in the program's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Meet. The meet will take place in Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion with diving events starting at 10 a.m. and swimming events beginning at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
