DURHAM, N.C.—Duke men's lacrosse duo
JT Giles-Harris and
Nakeie Montgomery are among the 50 players named to the 2020 Tewaaraton Award Watch List as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation Thursday night.
Duke is among 15 programs to have multiple players on the list with Virginia, Syracuse and Yale leading the way with four apiece. All five ACC schools have at least two players represented.
Giles-Harris, a 2019 Tewaaraton Award Nominee and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, is widely considered the top defensive player heading into the 2020 campaign. He is one of seven defensemen on the 50-player list for an award often reserved for the top offensive player in the game.
The Nyack, N.Y., native is a four-year starter on close defense and garnered All-America first team honors as a junior. He led the Blue Devils in caused turnovers last season and is 30 takeaways shy of besting Luke Duprey's Duke record. His 26 forced turnovers as a junior rank fifth in Duke single-season history. Also outstanding off the ground, Giles-Harris currently has 97 ground balls.
Montgomery, a midfielder, is coming off a sophomore campaign in which he garnered All-America third team honors. Running on Duke's first midfield line, the Dallas, Texas native possesses outstanding vision and the ability to score. He has 36 goals and 23 assists for 59 points in his 37 contests. He most recently scored a goal and dished out three assists at High Point. He aims to be 47th Blue Devil to reach 100 career points, needing 41 more points this season. He finished last year with 39.
The eighth-ranked Blue Devils head to No. 11 Denver for their biggest test so far in the 2020 season. Faceoff is set for 2 p.m., (ET) Feb. 15 at Peter Barton Stadium.
