DURHAM, N.C.—Duke sophomore midfielder
Owen Caputo has been selected as the ACC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday. This is the first career weekly award for the North Carolina native.
Caputo registered six points from three goals and three assists to help lead the Blue Devils to a victory at No. 8 Denver. The native of Apex, N.C., had two goals and three assists in the first half and iced the victory for Duke late in the fourth quarter with his third tally of the afternoon. Four of his five first-half points came in Duke's 7-0 run that spanned 14:37.
The hat trick was the first of his career, while the three assists tied his career high. Running on Duke's second midfield line this season, Caputo has registered at least two points in all three games and leads the team with 12 points overall.
Duke's win at Denver marked just the 10th setback for the Pioneers at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium since 2010. The Blue Devils improve to 118-58 against ranked opponents since 2006 and 66-40 against top-10 foes under head coach
John Danowski.
The Blue Devils bumped up one spot to 10th in the USILA poll following the win. Duke, ranked 10th by Inside Lacrosse and eighth in the Lacrosse Magazine top 20, faces another top 10 opponent this weekend in No. 7 Penn. Faceoff is set for 2 p.m., at Matthews Sportsplex in Charlotte, N.C.
