Megan Cooke Carcagno and the Duke rowing program are pleased to announce the addition of Ryleigh Katstra to compete for the Blue Devils in the fall of the 2020-21 season.
A native of Charlottesville, Va., Katstra attends and competes for Albemarle High School as well as the Rivanna Rowing Club. She has had a wealth of success at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championships, winning the Varsity 2x championship in 2019 and helping her crew place third in the Varsity 4x in 2018. Katstra has also captured a state championship in the 4x in 2018 and 2x in 2019.
Katstra is also a two-year letter winner in basketball. She is the daughter of Dirk and Michelle, and has two brothers, Austin and Ryan. Dirk and Katstra's grandfather, Richard, played basketball at Virginia, while her brother is currently competing for the Cavaliers.
What has been your favorite rowing memory?
RK: My favorite rowing memory was winning the Stotesbury Cup Regatta last year in the double.
Why did you choose Duke?
RK: I love the academics, commitment to athletics and the team culture at Duke, and I'm excited to be a part of all of those.
How did you get started in rowing?
RK: My coach found me in the hallway and asked me to try it out.
