DURHAM, N.C.—The honors continue to come in for
Dyson Williams. After garnering his first ACC Offensive Player of the Week, the Duke men's lacrosse rookie was named to the USILA Team of the Week.
Williams had a weekend to remember last week, totaling 11 goals to help Duke go 2-0 with against Richmond and Furman. Friday night versus the No. 20 Spiders was one to remember for Williams, scoring seven goals to push the Blue Devils to the 16-15 overtime win.
With Duke trailing 8-4 in the second quarter, Williams scored five straight to give the Blue Devils their first lead of the night. Overall, Williams outscored Richmond as a team 7-3 over a span of 21:02. Sunday, Williams added four more in his three quarters of action against Furman.
Williams' seven goals were the most by a Blue Devil since Zack Greer had seven in 2008. Both lefty Canadians, Williams and Greer grew up in the same town and Greer played on Team Canada and in the NLL with Dyson's father Shawn.
His 11 goals pushed his season total to 20 through six games. He currently leads all freshmen nationally in goals per game and ranks second overall in the ACC.
The Blue Devils are 4-2 overall and ranked 12th in the latest USILA poll. Duke travels to Baltimore this weekend to take on No. 11 Loyola, its fourth top 20 opponent this season. Faceoff is set for March 7 at 1 p.m., at Ridley Athletic Complex.
