Kira Page has wrapped up her four years at Duke as a valued member of the Duke swimming and diving program. A native of New Milford, Conn., Page set career-best times in the 100 and 200 back against North Carolina in February, her last meet as a Blue Devil. She currently sits 10th all-time at Duke in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 100 backstroke. Out of the pool, Page was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll each of her three years in Durham.
Â
Q: What is your favorite moment in the pool at Duke?
Page: All of our wins over UNC have been an absolute blast, but I think that this year's UNC meet was my favorite. It was also our senior night so having my family and friends there for such a special meet was really fun and bittersweet. An added bonus was that that we went 4-0 against UNC!
Â
Q: What legacy do you want to have on DSDT?
Page: I want to be remembered for my ability to seek out the best in any situation and to approach every day with a sense of optimism and humor. I also want to be thought of as someone who worked hard but didn't take life too seriously. I hope that these qualities have had a positive impact on all of my teammates, or at least given them some entertainment.Â
Â
Q: What is your favorite memory out of the pool at Duke?
Page: I have a lot, but probably O-week! It's the week before classes start when everyone comes back to Durham for Fall Semester. Finally getting to see everyone for the first time in a couple months is always so fun and it's a great way to bond with new teammates before we get busy with schoolwork!
Â
Q: What was your favorite workout at Duke?
Page: LDOC pump-up challenge! Every year our strength and conditioning coach, Carl, has a killer workout that we can come in and do anytime the morning of our last day of classes. It's a competition to see who can finish the fastest so it gets pretty competitive. It's always a great way to end the year + fine-tune our summer bods.Â
Â
Q: What's next after Duke? Whether it is pursuing professional swimming, the Olympics, a career, etc.
Page: Next year I will be doing research in pediatric orthopedics at the Hospital of Special Surgery in New York City. After that, I hope to continue my education and pursue a medical degree.
Â
Some of Page's favorites:
Â
Q: Professional athlete?
Page: Allyson Felix because she's always been a role model of mine. On a less serious note, definitely Rob Gronkowski.Â
Â
Q: Meal?
Page: Divinity Cafe oatmealÂ
Â
Q: Sweet treat?
Page: Reese's PiecesÂ
Â
Q: Sport other than swimming?Â
Page: I used to play soccer and run track so probably one of those.
