DURHAM, N.C. – GoDuke.com recently chatted with junior saberist
Ping Ping Kitsiriboon to check in with him and look back on his year with the Blue Devils that was cut short due to COVID-19 concerns.
Where are you now?
"Right now, I'm staying in Durham for the foreseeable future."
What are you doing to stay active?
"I am going on runs around Durham, using the mini-gym at parks for pull-ups and body-weight exercises. But the most interesting has been the Murph Challenge, which I have been recently getting in to. From my understanding, it is one mile run as fast as I can, 100 pull-ups, 200 pushups and sit ups then one mile as fast as I can back."
What was your favorite memory from the 2020 season?
"My favorite memory was having friends and alumni come back to support me and performing well on home turf during the home meet and NCAA regionals!"
What do you miss most about being at Duke?
"I miss my coaches and professors most at Duke. With everyone staying at home due to the pandemic, there is no physical person there to motivate and keep myself focused. I really needed to crank up the self-discipline in me and not waste the valuable time I'm getting."
Kitsiriboon qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row and collected All-America honors in the process for the second time as a saberist.
At the ACC Championships, Kitsiriboon placed fifth overall in the individual portion of the event and went on to finish sixth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on his home strips in Durham.
He fenced to a 26-22 overall record during the regular season that was highlighted by 10 victories at the Philadelphia Invitational.
