DURHAM, N.C. – With the 2020 National Women's Soccer League season officially underway, several former Duke standouts are making impacts on their respective teams. Check out how the Blue Devils are performing in the latest edition of DWS in the Pros.
After three weeks of match play, the Utah 2020 Challenge Cup transitioned into a tournament format, beginning with the preliminary round schedule last week. Many Blue Devils saw action across the week's contests.
Rebecca Quinn – OL Reign
Quinn, a member of OL Reign, saw action in both of her team's contests over the past week. She logged the full 90 minutes in last Monday's matchup with the Portland Thorns, which ended in a scoreless draw. In her squad's second match of the week, she only recorded one minute of action, as her team played to its second scoreless tie of the week, before falling in a penalty kick shootout to be eliminated from the tournament.
Imani Dorsey – Sky Blue FC
Dorsey, a member of Sky Blue FC, also saw action in both of her team's contest over the week. Last Monday, she logged the full 90 minutes of action in the matchup with the North Carolina Courage, as her team fell to a 2-0 decision. She recorded 80 minutes of action in Saturday's match with the Washington Spirit, registering one shot in the contest, which ended in a scoreless draw. Sky Blue FC won 4-3 in the penalty shootout, to advance to the next round, which will be played tomorrow evening at 10 p.m. ET.
Ella Stevens – Chicago Red Stars
Stevens, a rookie with the Chicago Red Stars, saw action in her team's lone contest of the week on Saturday. The Red Stars were matched up against the OL Reign, as Stevens logged five minutes of play in the match. The two teams played to a scoreless draw, before the Red Stars won 4-3 in the penalty kick shootout to advance to the next round. The Red Stars will be in action tomorrow evening at 10 p.m. in a semifinal matchup with Sky Blue FC.
The NWSL Challenge Cup resumes tomorrow with the semifinals taking place. The Houston Dash are scheduled to face the Portland Thorns FC in the first match of the day, while the Red Stars and Sky Blue FC will face each other in the nightcap. The winner of each game will advance to the championship round, which is scheduled for Sunday, July 26 at 12:30 p.m. ET. The championship will air live on CBS, taking place from Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.
