DURHAM, N.C. – With the 2020 National Women's Soccer League season officially underway, several former Duke standouts are making impacts on their respective teams. Check out how the Blue Devils are performing in the latest edition of DWS in the Pros.
Entering its fifth week of competition, the NWSL wrapped up the Utah 2020 Challenge Cup last week with the semifinals on Wednesday followed by the championship on Sunday afternoon. Each of the week's contests featured Blue Devils as the tournament came to a close.
Imani Dorsey – Sky Blue FC
Dorsey and the Sky Blue FC advanced to the semifinals of the Challenge Cup, falling to the Chicago Red Stars on Wednesday evening, 3-2. The former Blue Devil saw 23 minutes of action in the matchup, as her squad fell one goal short of advancing to the championship.
Ella Stevens – Chicago Red Stars
Stevens and the Chicago Red Stars continued their impressive run in the Challenge Cup with a great performance in the semifinals against the Sky Blue FC. The Red Stars claimed a 3-2 victory on Wednesday evening, clinching a spot in the championship game against the Houston Dash. The Red Stars fell, 2-0, in the championship match on Sunday afternoon.
Kayla McCoy – Houston Dash
McCoy and the Houston Dash ended the Challenge Cup in perfect fashion, capturing the championship on Sunday afternoon. The Dash defeated the Portland Thorns in the semifinals, 1-0, to advance to the championship match. Houston went on to claim a 2-0 victory over the Red Stars, to secure their first trophy in club history and become the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup Champions.
