DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke Women's Soccer team took a vote this week for captains and came away with a trio of Blue Devils to lead the squad with
Tess Boade,
Lily Nabet and
Caitlin Cosme selected tri-captains for the 2020 campaign.
"Congratulations go out to Tess, Lily and Caitlin," said Duke head coach
Robbie Church. "It is a great honor to be voted by your teammates as tri-captains for the 2020 season. They along with all of our seniors will serve on our leadership committee. We feel that they will help lead us both on the field and off the field. They have done a wonderful job in this unpresented time period starting back in March and working all the way up to our first game. I think the team voting got it right and I think they will do a fantastic job as leaders for us this year."
The trio hopes to build upon a 9-4-7 record last season, which ended with a second round defeat in the NCAA Tournament to Wisconsin. Â
Boade finished fourth on the team in goals a year ago with four. The Highlands Ranch, Colo., senior played in all 20 games in 2019, starting 18 and finishing with a 41.4 shots on goal percentage. She has played in 53 career contests with the Blue Devils, while making 29 starts and collecting 23 points over the last three years.
Nabet, a senior who hails from Los Angeles, Calif., started all 20 games last season, ranking fifth on the team in shots while also registering four assists. She has competed in 46 career matches, while making 26 starts. Nabet owns eight points over the last two seasons.
Cosme enjoyed a stellar junior season playing in all 20 games while starting in 18. The New Hyde Park, N.Y., native notched her first career goal against Syracuse last season and helped the Duke defense register eight shutouts. Â
The senior trio will join fellow seniors
Brooke Heinsohn,
Taylor Mitchell,
Remi Swartz,
Karlie Paschall,
Mia Gyau and
Natasha Turner as part of the Blue Devils' Leadership Committee.
Duke has been picked to finish fourth in the ACC preseason poll behind North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia.
The Blue Devils open their 2020 campaign Thursday at Wake Forest on the ACC Network with a 7 p.m., start.
