DURHAM – The second-ranked Duke women's golf program doesn't get a chance to play in local golf tournaments very often, but will have the chance this week, as the Blue Devils will travel down Tobacco Road to compete in the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational from Oct. 15-17 at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Competing this week will be Alabama, Clemson, Duke, Furman, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, NC State, Ohio State, Rollins, SMU, UNC Wilmington, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. All teams will play three, 18-hole rounds from Friday through Sunday.
This will mark the 43rd time Duke will compete in the Tar Heel Invitational with the Blue Devils bringing home the hardware a total of 16 times (2018, 2017, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997 and 1988. Duke head coach

A total of 12 Blue Devils have claimed the Tar Heel Invitational individual title – Leona Maguire (2017, 2015), Amanda Blumenherst (2007), Leigh Anne Hardin (2003, 2000), Liz Janangelo (2003, 2002), Kristina Engstrom (2001), Candy Hannemann (2000, 1998), Jenny Chuasiriporn (1997) and Christine Casingal (1988).

Gina Kim will not compete as she is getting set to play in Stage II of LPGA Qualifying School in Venice, Fla.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tar Heel Invitational was not staged in 2020 so only Shepherd and Furtney have competed in the tournament since arriving at Duke.
Duke will open action on Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m., along with Michigan and Alabama.
