FRESHMEN DUO SHINES IN SEASON OPENER
A duo of freshmen on the Duke women's swimming and diving team etched their names in the program record books after their first collegiate meet.
Â
RookiesÂ
Yixuan Chang andÂ
Margo O'Meara shined for the Blue Devils in No. 24 Duke's 170-130 win over the 18th-ranked Hokies.
Â
Chang swept all three events she competed in, the 200, 500 and 1,000 freestyle. Her mark of 10:00.57 in the 1,000 free ranks seventh in program history. The Stamford, Conn., native's time of 1:48.77 in the 200 free narrowly missed the top-10 times in program history by one hundredth of a second.
Â
O'Meara enjoyed a stellar debut on the boards, placing first in the three-meter and second in the one-meter. Her scores of 371.48 (three-meter) and 316.35 (one-meter) rank second and fourth all-time in program history, respectively. O'Meara, a native of St. Louis, Mo., recorded the highest score on the three-meter springboard since OlympianÂ
Abby Johnston set the program record in 2010.
