NEED TO KNOW
- Duke women's soccer opens the NCAA Championship with a first-round matchup against Old Dominion on Friday at Koskinen Stadium.
- The match kicks off at 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra with Ryan Craig on the call.
- The Blue Devils earned the program's third No. 1 seed in the NCAA Championship after putting together a 13-3-1 record with a 7-2-1 mark in ACC matches.
- Duke will make its 27th all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship, including its 18th in the last 19 seasons, and holds a 42-22-11 record in 75 tournament matches.
- The Blue Devils reached the NCAA College Cup each of the previous two times they entered the tournament as a No. 1 seed (2011, 2017).
- Duke is 18-3-5 all-time in its opening match of the NCAA Championship, including a 13-1-4 mark in the first round since the tournament expanded to its current 64-team format in 2001.
- The winner of Friday's match will advance to the second round to face the victor of LSU and Memphis.
- The Blue Devils brought in multiple postseason individual awards, highlighted by Michelle Cooper being named the ACC Freshman of the Year.
- Cooper is tied for fifth among all freshman nationally with 10 goals this year. She is one goal shy of the Duke freshman record set by Kelly Cobb in 2011.
- Cooper was also tapped to the All-ACC First Team alongside graduate student Tess Boade and junior goalkeeper Ruthie Jones.
- In just 16 matches, Boade has recorded career highs in goals (7), assists (5) and points (24).
- Jones' .833 save percentage and 0.54 goals against average are both tops in the ACC this season.
- Junior Sophie Jones earned second-team honors, marking the second straight season she landed on an All-ACC squad.
DUKE IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
- The Blue Devils earned their 27th all-time bid to the NCAA Championship, where they are 42-22-11 overall in 75 matches.
- Duke's first appearance in the tournament came in 1992, when it advanced to the program's first national title match.
- Duke was selected as one of four No. 1 seeds, marking the third time in program history that the Blue Devils will enter the NCAA Championship as the top seed in their region.
- Each of the previous two instances resulted in a College Cup appearance. Duke carried its No. 1 seed to the national final in 2011 and ran through competition en route to a semifinal appearance in 2017. The Blue Devils are 9-1-1 as a No. 1 seed.
- Duke is 35-15-10 under head coach Robbie Church in the NCAA Championship and has earned a spot in the tournament in 19 of his 21 seasons at Duke.
- After receiving a first-round bye in last season's tournament that only featured 48 teams due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Duke picked up two wins to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the seventh time since 2011. The Blue Devils are one of three programs nationally with 7+ quarterfinal appearances in the last 10 tournaments

- Duke is 18-3-5 all-time in its opening match of the NCAA Championship, including a 13-1-4 mark in the first round since the tournament expanded to its current 64-team format in 2001.
- The Blue Devils have advanced past the first round in each of their last 10 tournament appearances.
DUKE VS. OLD DOMINION
- Duke and Old Dominion have met four times since the series' first match in 2000, with the Blue Devils taking all four contests.
- Friday will be the first time the two programs see each other in the NCAA Championship.
- The Blue Devils are 2-0-0 versus ODU at Koskinen Stadium, including a 1-0 win in their last meeting on Sept. 9, 2018.
- Kayla McCoy netted the lone goal in the third minute of that 2018 match with an assist from Marykate McGuire.
- Duke is 18-1-4 all-time against teams in Conference USA.
SCOUTING THE MONARCHS
- Old Dominion is set to compete in the NCAA Championship for the second time in school history and is coming off the program's first Conference USA tournament title.
- The Monarchs enter Friday's match with a 13-4-1 record this season and have won each of their last four games.
- Junior Carla Morich was tapped the Offensive MVP of the C-USA tournament while senior Emily Roberts earned Defensive MVP honors.
- Morich paces the ODU attack with five goals and six assists for 16 points this season. She has recorded a shot on goal in 10 of her last 11 contests and had two multi-goal performances in September.
- Roberts is also the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year and has started all 18 matches on the back line for ODU. She ranks sixth on the team with five points (one goal, three assists).
- Senior goalkeeper Kasey Perry has appeared in 15 matches with 14 starts, logging 30 saves and eight shutouts.
- Perry, the C-USA Goalkeeper of the Year, is one of three Monarchs on the Conference USA First Teamm, alongside Roberts and junior Ece Turkoglu.
- Conference USA Coach of the Year Angie Hind is in her eighth season at the helm of the ODU program. The team's 13 wins this season are its most during Hind's tenure.
DUKE AT KOSKINEN
- Despite Friday's match officially being played as a neutral site game, Duke will look to capitalize on one of the best home-field advantages in the nation provided by Koskinen Stadium.
- The Blue Devils boast a 45-6-7 record at the venue since the start of the 2017 campaign, including a 9-2-0 mark this season.
- Three of Duke's six wins against ranked opponents this season have come at Koskinen, including its 1-0 victory over then-No. 1 Florida State on Oct. 24.
- Duke has outscored its opponents 29-7 at Koskinen this season.
- The 5-0 win over East Carolina on Sept. 9 marked head coach Robbie Church's 150th career victory at the venue.
- Duke is 22-2-1 in NCAA Championship matches played in Durham.
FOUR EARN ACC HONORS
- The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its postseason awards on Nov. 4, with Duke represented by four players on the All-ACC teams.
- Michelle Cooper was named the ACC Freshman of the Year, becoming the fourth Blue Devil all-time to win the award, and landed on the All-ACC First Team and All-Freshman Team.
- Cooper joined past Duke ACC Freshman of the Year recipients Isis Dallis (1997), Casey McCluskey (2001) and Cassie Pecht (2012).
- Graduate student Tess Boade and junior Ruthie Jones were also included on the First Team, marking the first career All-ACC honor for both players.
- Jones became the Blue Devils' first All-ACC goalkeeper since EJ Proctor in 2017.
- Sophomore Sophie Jones' name was listed on an All-ACC squad for the second consecutive year, as she earned a spot on the Second Team.
- Duke owns 103 all-time All-ACC selections and has boasted multiple all-conference picks each year since 1992.
