LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Graduate students
Michaela Reinhart and
Josh Romine earned All-Region honors to pace the Duke cross country program at the 2021 NCAA Southeast Regional, hosted by the University of Kentucky at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
The Blue Devil men matched their best finish as a team at the regional, placing sixth overall and tallying 167 points behind Wake Forest, No. 17 Furman, North Carolina, NC State and Charlotte. Duke also earned sixth place in the 2019 Southeast Regional. The women earned an 11th-place finish with 308 points.
"I'd like to highlight our two All-Region performances with
Josh Romine and
Michaela Reinhart," said head coach
Angela Reckart. "From a team standpoint, I believe our men ran very strong, finishing sixth. The women struggled today, as we simply had some things occur that did not play out in our favor. We will learn from this season, and I guarantee that we will be better for it in the future."
The women's 6k race kicked off the morning's events. For the second time this postseason, Reinhart earned the top placement among the Duke women. Back in her hometown, Reinhart garnered her third All-Region honor and finished 20th with a time of 20:44.4. Senior
Clara Savchik also earned a top-40 placement, finishing the race in 21:20.1.
Sophomore

Romine paced the Duke men in the 10K race, finishing in 20th at 29:53.2 – a personal best in the 10K. The Highlands Ranch, Colo., native improved his position among the field as the race progressed, jumping 21 spots over the final 5000 meters to secure his first All-Region selection, just two weeks after earning his first All-ACC honors at the ACC Championships.
Senior
Chris Theodore, juniors

Zach Kinne, along with graduate student

Rivera's finishing time was also a PR in the 10K event, shaving nearly a minute off his previous best.
