ST. GEORGE REELS IN ACC WEEKLY HONOR …
Following a 2-0 weekend in Columbia, senior Peyton St. George was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week. She hurled 10 innings in which she tallied 14 strikeouts, while only letting up three hits and one earned run for a 0.70 ERA. The award is the second weekly honor for St. George this season and the first solo honor in program history – two prior awards were co-players.
DAVIS CONTINUES HOT STREAK
Junior Deja Davis continues her impressive junior season, both at shortstop and the plate. At the Gamecock Invitational, the California native went 7-for-12 with two doubles, one triple, two home runs and six RBI. She had a 1.417 slugging percentage and a .615 on base percentage. Davis also recorded the program's second inside-the-park home run.
Following her strong performance, she leads the ACC in hits (21), runs scored (14), triples (4), total bases (42), on base percentage (.558) and slugging (1.077). Davis ranks first nationally in triples, seventh in hits, seventh in total bases, 12th in triples per game, 21st in batting average and 28th in slugging.
4-0 WEEKEND AT GAMECOCK INVITATIONAL
Early run support and solid pitching led Duke to four more wins last weekend in Columbia. The Blue Devils picked up two shutout run-rule victories on Saturday against Seton Hall (8-0) and Longwood (9-0) before topping Seton Hall (6-1) and No. 18 South Carolina (5-1) on Sunday. Before the Blue Devils beat the Gamecocks, South Carolina was 32-0 in its Gamecock Invitational.
Ten Blue Devils notched at least one hit during the weekend and combined for a .311 batting average. Duke registered 32 hits as Davis led with seven, followed by sophomore Gisele Tapia (6), junior Kristina Foreman (5) and senior Rachel Crabtree (5).
Duke utilized four pitchers over the weekend as junior Shelby Walters and St. George both went 2-0. Walters hurled 12.1 frames in which she tallied seven strikeouts and earned one shutout. Her 0.49 ERA is the lowest in the ACC and 31st nationally.
