AWENDAW, S.C. – The Duke men's golf team posted the team's fourth top-five finish in six events this season by placing fifth at the Hootie Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay GC. The Blue Devils were one of five squad to finish under par for the tournament that wrapped up on Tuesday.
Senior
Adrien Pendaries led the way for Duke as the native of France carded a 54-hole score of 2-under par 214, which was good for a tie for 12th overall. Freshman
Ian Siebers was the other Blue Devil in the top 30 as he placed tied for 28th at 1-over 217.
NC State won the team title at 18-under par, edging Missouri (-16) by two strokes. Auburn (-15), Kent State (-15) and Duke (-1) rounded out the top five of the 16-team field. The Wolfpack's Benjamin Shipp claimed individual medalist honors at 11-under par.
Graduate captain
Steven DiLisio capped a solid showing with an even-par 72 in Tuesday's final round and finished tied for 33rd at 2-over 218. He played even par over the final 36 holes after shooting 2-over on Sunday.
Senior
Qi wen Wong also played steady golf over the final 36 holes, carding back-to-rounds of even-par 72 and finishing 5-over for the tournament -- in a tie for 53rd. Freshman
Jimmy Zheng was 3-over for the tournament to finish in a tie for 38th, while senior
Evan Katz shot his low round of the tournament with a 1-under 71 on Tuesday and placed 69th at 8-over.
Pendaries signed for a 3-over 75 on Tuesday – a round that featured three bogeys and 15 pars as he recorded his fourth top-20 finish this season and the 20th of his career. Siebers also carded a final-round 75 and the freshman has finished inside the top 30 in each of his six starts this season.
The Blue Devils head to the Stitch Intercollegiate April 9-10 at MacGregor Downs GC in Cary as its final tune-up before the ACC Championship April 23-26 at Capital City Club in Milton, Ga.
