CARY – Paced by freshmen
Ian Siebers and
Jimmy Zheng, the Duke men's golf team opened action at the Stitch Intercollegiate on Friday at MacGregor Downs GC in Cary. Play was suspended midway through the second round due to weather and darkness.
When the second round resumes Saturday morning, the Blue Devils will find themselves at 6-under through 26 holes and in sixth place. Siebers and Zheng are each inside the top 20 on the individual leaderboard.
Siebers fired a 1-under 71 in round one and was 3-under through eight holes in the second round before play was called by lightning. The freshman from Bellevue, Wash., is tied for 10th at 4-under through 26 holes. After opening the tournament with a bogey, the freshman played 5-under with five birdies over the next 25 holes.
Zheng posted a 4-under 68 in the morning round and was 2-over in round two to be tied for 19th at 2-under par. The Auckland, New Zealand, native was 5-under through his opening nine holes with five birdies and had three more birdies on a back before a double bogey on 18 to post his 68. He then shook off a quadruple bogey on the first hole in round two with two birdies and an eagle over his next four holes.
Saturday's schedule calls for plays to resume at 8:30 a.m. with the remainder of round two, followed immediately by the final round. Live scoring will be available from Golfstat.

Qi wen Wong and
Quinn Riley each posted an even-par 72 in the first round, while

Cameron Martinez-Piedra shot 76.
NC State leads the tournament at 21-under par, followed by Notre Dame (-20), Virginia Tech (-19), East Tennessee State (-17), College of Charleston (-11) and Duke (-6) in the half of the 12-team field. NC State's Christian Salzer tops the individual leaderboard at 9-under par.
