DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke field hockey team will open the spring portion of its 2020-21 campaign with an afternoon matchup at Virginia on Friday, March 5. The match is set for 3 p.m. at Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.

HISTORY WITH THE CAVALIERS
Duke and Virginia will meet for the 59th time as the Cavaliers lead the all-time series, 37-21. In the two programs' last meeting on Halloween, Duke came away with a 2-0 shutout at home in the fall regular-season finale. Freshman

SCOUTING VIRGINIA
The Cavaliers went 4-7 (2-3 ACC) in the fall with a trip to the ACC Semifinals. Virginia has scheduled seven games for the spring, playing all six league opponents with one non-conference contest against neighboring James Madison. Sophomore Lauren Janssen paced Virginia's offense with 14 points from seven goals. Junior Amber Ezechiels notched a team-high four assists and finished with eight points.
Virginia's goalkeepers split time as sophomore Taylor Henriksen put together a 3-2 record with 33 saves while junior Lauren Hausheer went 1-5 with 25.

BLUE DEVILS' SPRING SCHEDULE
The Blue Devils will play seven games this spring, facing all six of its conference opponents and non-conference foe Liberty. Four of Duke's seven games will be played on its home turf. The ACC is wiping conference standings following the fall season as a playoff game will be held on Saturday, April 24, to determine the league's automatic qualifier. The team atop the ACC standings in the spring will face the 2020 ACC Champions in North Carolina.

Seeing a new face in goal for the first time since 2016, freshman
Piper Hampsch played all 547 minutes in the cage for Duke. She concluded the fall with a 2.63 goals against average and made 33 saves while earning two shutouts in nine games to open her career. Â
